Things To Do – Winter 2008
Makea Salt Dough Decoration
These Christmas decorations are so easy to create, and they make a great gift.
You will need
- 300g plain flour
- 300g salt
- 220ml water
- 1 teaspoon oil
- Paint and glitter
Method
- Put all the ingredients in a bowl and use your hands to mix. Make sure you really work the dough to mix all the ingredients together.
- Squeeze the dough together to make a ball.
- Now you're ready to roll, squash or mould your dough into festive decorations!
- Use cookie cutters or a rolling pin and blunt knife (with an adult's help) to make trees, stars, or any other shape you can think of. But don't forget - if you want to hang your decorations you'll need to make a little hole with a cocktail stick to thread the string through later.
- To harden your decorations, ask an adult to place them on a baking try in an oven pre-heated to 180 degrees for twenty minutes. Cool on a wire rack then decorate with paint and glitter.
- You're now ready to impress your family and friends by hanging your decorations on the tree or around the house!
