Get a green makeover

The following beauty treatments can be found in your fridge or kitchen cupboard. Why not try our avocado facemask, egg yolk conditioner, or oatmeal bath soak?

Banana facemask for oily skin

This is a soothing facemask and great if you have bananas around the house.

Ingredients
  • 1 banana, preferably ripe (you can keep ripe bananas in the freezer; let them thaw before using)
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • An orange or a lemon
Method
  1. Mix the banana and honey together.
  2. Add a few drops of juice from an orange or a lemon.
  3. Apply to face for 15 minutes before rinsing with a cool washcloth or a steaming warm washcloth.

Avocado facemask for dry skin

Avocados and honey are particularly moisturising.

Ingredients
  • ½ avocado
  • ¼ cup honey
  • An orange or a lemon
Preparation

A classic recipe for dry skin.

  1. Mash the avocado in a bowl, then stir in honey.
  2. Apply to skin and leave for 10 minutes.
  3. Rinse face with a cool washcloth.

Homemade oatmeal bath

This is a very soothing bath and ideal for dry skin.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups of oats
  • 1 nylon stocking
Preparation
  1. Tie stocking end in a knot.
  2. Turn on bath tap and set at a comfortable temperature.
  3. Hold stocking under the tap flowing at full force.
  4. Swirl stocking through water several times.
  5. Wring stocking out over water.
  6. Discard stocking (do not reuse).
  7. Soak in tub for 15 to 20 minutes.

Egg yolk conditioner

This makes your hair really shiny!

Ingredients
  • 1 teaspoon baby oil
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 cup water
Preparation
  1. Beat the egg yolk until its frothy, add the oil then beat again.
  2. Add to the water.
  3. Massage into the scalp and throughout your hair. Rinse well.
