Make a 'stained-glass' leaf

Not only does this make a really cool decoration, it's also a good way to use up all your old broken bits of crayon!

You will need

  • 1 decent-sized leaf (not too dry)
  • Thick black paper or card
  • Greaseproof paper
  • Crayons in Autumn colours (red, brown, orange, yellow)
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Iron (be sure to ask mum!)

Method

  1. Find a nice, big fallen leaf in the woods or park. Make sure it's not too dry and crumbly.
  2. Cut the black paper or card into two 20cm squares.
  3. With the two squares placed back to back, trace round the leaf on the top square with chalk.
  4. With an adult to help, carefully cut out the leaf shape, with the two squares still together.
  5. Shave the crayons and place the pieces on a sheet of greaseproof paper.
  6. Place a second sheet of greaseproof paper on top of the shavings, then place a piece of paper on top and get an adult to melt the shavings with a warm iron.
  7. Cut the tracing paper down to fit between the sheets of black paper.
  8. Glue all the sheets together and you've made your very own leaf stained glass window!
